We don't have a isolated control room in our Studio. Instead, we work side by side with the artists, in the same space, during recording sessions. We bring a recording control surface in with us to operate the DAW.
So during a studio recording session we use the Behringer X Touch control surface to operate CuBase. With this setup we can arm tracks, change volumes, start and stop recordings without looking for a keyboard an mouse.
This article show how we setup the Behringer X Touch with CuBase 12.
Step 1: Connect the XTouch via the USB connection to the recording computer.
Step 2: Setup the X Touch to operate in MC USB mode. You do this by powering on the X Touch while holding down the Channel 1 Select button.
Step 3: Download a special Cubase js for the X Touch [here]. For Windows, save this file in
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Steinberg\Cubase\MIDI Remote\Driver Scripts\Local\behringer\xtouch\
Step 4: Run Cubase12 (pro) and it should automatically find the script and activate the control surface.
We also use an overlay purchased from birchwoodoverlays.com
